The Iraqi Vote

Most of the time I try to avoid this political commentary; however there was one important thing that happened this weekend. The major news this weekend was the first free election in Iraq in my lifetime. Now we all have varying views on Presidents Bush’s decision to go into Iraq. While we may disagree on that fact I would say majority of us support the troops that are there and their efforts.

Did Bush make a mistake? I think most would agree he did. Was he misinformed by the people he entrusted to give him information about Iraq? Again most likely this is the case. Is our plan in Iraq going well? Overall it has struggled and we have probably lost more Americans than we though we would? In the end, will it be worth it for the people of Iraq, the people of America, and the world at large? I would have to say yes.

Tell me what can be wrong with the people of Iraq trying to establish a free society and having an open election for their leaders? This is what our great nation is built upon, and what most of us agree makes America the wonderful place that it is to live. The one thing George Bush promised was that he would bring democracy to a land that had been ruled by a ruthless dictator. Even the expected violence on Election Day was much less than expected, due not only to American troops but the trained Iraqi police forces.

It seems to me that some things are going pretty well in Iraq. Again, our administration certainly has some special interests over there, and we all no that is oil and now trying to cover their own asses for starting something they probably shouldn’t have. However, letting people decide their future leaders with a free election is something that gives me a tingle down my spine. As an American I am proud to say that we have liberated the people of Iraq and given them a vested interest in their future and how their country is going to be lead in the 21st century.

I am sure Josh and Dan will knock me for saying good things about what is going on in Iraq, because as card carrying hippie democrats they have to completely disagree with everything George Walker Bush does. I for one was very excited to listen to interviews with Iraqi citizens and Iraqi Americans and the joy that they had on this historic day in their country.

PS
I finally had the chance to see Million Dollar Baby. Clint Eastwood has made his masterpiece. Honestly, it is the best, most well made movie I have ever seen.

I still hate Stuart Scott, and Stu Scott at the Super Bowl is fucking dreadful.

Lastly, if we are going to have on big giant media day at the Super Bowl what is the point of having daily press conferences with the Coach’s and players? I have heard no less than ten interviews with each of the coach’s, QB’s and other star players. Why? No fucking interviews accept on Media Day, these fucko’s can answer all the questions on one damned day. I just don’t need daily briefings on the size of Richard Seymour’s scrotum.

I'm not going to ruin the cheerful, happy mood that has appeared on this site because it's cool to see Iraqi women covering in wraps doing that cool tounge yell (Ye Ye Ye Ye Ye) and cast a ballot.
But while I watched the national news, there was one Iraqi guy who kept it as real as hell.
He said, "Today, we vote. But tomorrow when I wake up, it will still be chaos, death and destruction outside."
All you Bush supporters, the over/under for the troops coming home is set at Feb. 1, 2007. Where ya betting?
And as great as all this is, you know if the administration spent a quarter of thier time worrying about this country instead of the rest of the world, things like Stu Scott's elimination, homeless children, the rising cost of health care and the two week wait for the Super Bowl. I mean, honestly, does anyone really know the names of the Patriots' secondary besides Rodney Harrison and Ty Law?
