The Weekend Wrap

Things we learned:

- Dave Chapelle you so crazy!!! Not sure what is exactly going on with this dude? He did not like the direction of his own show, the one he has creative control over? That seems a little weird to me. Now don’t get me wrong, I love this dude and think he is a fucking riot but something else is wrong, he has been smoking some bad weed or some shit. I hope that he reconciles his differences with himself and gets back to making television I really enjoy.

- Finally the second round of the Playoffs has been paying off over the last 4 days. It once appeared as if all these series would be blowouts, and outside of the Heat and Wiz series that are shaping up as great series. The Pacers/Pistons is an absolute war. Much like it was last season, but this season there is such an added incentive after what happened in November. The tension at these games is so high, you feel like one night during a timeout you might see Larry Bird and Joe Dumars get out there and start going at each other. The Seattle Sonics and Coach Nate McMillan are keeping the impossible dream alive right now. They were down 2-0 going back home; they had lost their 3rd leading scorer, Ray Allen was playing on a bum ankle, and Rashard Lewis missed Game 4 (their 2nd leading scorer). All of this while playing the battle tested playoff savvy San Antonio Spurs. Everyone gave them up for dead, but McMillan has found a way to get the most out of every player on his bench, and that means the likes of Damien Willkins (who was a bad SEC player, why he is in the pro’s I am not sure), Reggie Evans, and Vitaly Potapenko. And finally the series that never saw a shot it didn’t like, or the White Boy series!!! That’s right black guys, where taking it back. MVP Steve Nash has played balls out, with a 48 point explosion last night & a 27 pt 17 ass performance in a Game 3 victory. Dirk Nowitzki is carrying his team every single night, hitting big shots every time the Mavs need it. This one is going 7 glorious games.

Things I Disliked:

- The fact that Monster in Law was #1 at the box office this weekend earning $24 million. This movie stars Jennifer Lopez and Hanoi Jane Fonda. The only four words that make me want to see a movie less are: Sandra Bullock & Hugh Grant!!! I know I had a post a few weeks ago about this, but the other superstar openers this weekend were Kicking & Screaming and Unleashed (where Jet Li was a dog and is now a human?). People turned out in big numbers last week to see Kingdom of Heaven and it had a 51% drop off this week, which means people did not like it and told their friends to stay away, and were rarely going back for a second look. The one bit of encouraging news was that box office numbers have been way down over the last 3 months which will hopefully indicate to studios that they are making pure crap!!

- Again this is a repeat complaint, but I am now on a quest. After watching tons of NBA playoff action this weekend I am again tired of the official whining!!! The 2 biggest cry babies since Jordan retired are in the same series, Reggie Miller and the ever loveable Rasheed Wallace. Reggie complains before the game evens starts, except he is a likeable veteran and he puts his arm around the officials waste when he complains. You know what, throw ‘em out of the game, I have no use for this shit, I hate it hate it hate it. Rasheed actually caught the ball in the post, turned and complained to the official then made his move and missed an open lay up attempt in Game 3, and then complained the entire way down the floor. Then you have Manu Ginobili falling down like he got shot every time he draws contact. Ben Wallace is built like a brick shithouse and when Jeff Foster bumps him he falls to the ground and then complains he did not get the call. Sorry I always have to get that off my chest come playoff time.

Things I liked:

- How about those Damned Yankees? Eight in a row is pretty damned impressive. And I would say their starting pitching is not all the way around yet, they still had some mediocre performances. Tino Martinez for president. They should have never let this guy go in favor of Roidy Giambi. Now they have both of them and Tino is playing his way into the All Star Game.

- Greeneville, North Carolina. That is a pretty cool place. I was up there visiting some people I know who work at East Carolina University. The town itself is in the middle of fucking nowhere, but the college and the atmosphere surrounding it are pretty damned cool. The girl to guy ratio is 3 to 1, even guys like me can get ass in a town like that. And most of the women there are pretty damned hot, at least the ones I saw!!!

DID YOU KNOW OF THE WEEK?

Annika Sorenstam is the most dominant athlete on the planet in her sports, it is that simple. She just won her 60th tournament, by 10 easy strokes. She was never even challenged in this tournament; she played 3 bogey free rounds, that is next to impossible. This is her 6th victory in the last 7 events she has been in, and won 31 tournaments over the last 4 ½ years.
