Heisman Time

It is time for the Downtown Athletic Club to give out the most famous trophy in sports. Yes the trophy has lost its luster but it still a select group of athletes who can walk around and say they are Heisman Trophy winners. Let’s take a look at the candidates in no particular order:

MATT LEINAHRT (USC)- He has thrown for 2900+ yards and 28 TD’s while only throwing 6 picks. His team is 12-0 and poised to play for the whole ball of wax. In his teams 2 biggest games he performed excellently throwing 7 TD’s and 1 INT and over 500 yards against Cal and Notre Dame.

REGGIE BUSH (USC)- He does not have the greatest numbers but he is the biggest game changer. He has over 2000 all purpose yards, 6.1 yards per carry and 15 total TD’s. He has made some big plays but overall he is not the consistant every game performer that the others are.

JASON WHITE (OKL)- His numbers are almost the exact same as Leinahrts. 2,900 yards 33 TD’s and 6 INT’s and his team is 12-0 and also playing for the national title. In his 2 biggest games his performances were marginal throwing for a total of just over 300 yards and 3 TD’s against Texas and Oklahoma State. However, his team did emerge victorious.

ADRIAN PETERSON (OKL)- As a freshman he has been as good as advertised. Rushing for 1800+ yards, 5.9 yards per carry and 18 TD’s. In his teams 2 biggest games he has shined brightest, rushing for an average of 230 yards and a touchdown. He has been a model of consitancy rushing for over 100 yards in all but one game.

JASON CAMPBELL (AUB)- He has thrown for 2500 yard and 19 TD’s while also leading his team to an undefeated record. In his teams biggest games he has thrown for an average of 210 yards and over 73% completion percentage. And when called upon he stepped up huge in the SEC Championship game by throwing for 374 yards and 3 TD’s.

ALEX SMITH (UTAH)- He has had a great season going for 2500 yards, 28 TD’s and rushed for an additional 10 TD’s and 500 yards. Against 3 BCS Conference teams he has thrown for over 800 yards, 9 TD’s, and an additional 3 TD’s. Oh yeah, his team is also undefeated.

Other unsung guys who should receive votes are Carlos Rogers (AUB), Carnell Williams (AUB), David Pollack (UGA), Aaron Rodgers (CAL), Jared Zabransky (BOISE STATE), JJ Arrington (CAL), and Cedric Benson (TEX).

With all that being said I think this is how it should shake out:
Adrian Peterson
Matt Leinhart
Jason White
Alex Smith
Jason Campbell
Reggie Bush
