Let’s Go Mets
Oh those Amazin’s….hey think you guys maybe could get a hit of Jeff Suppan sometime this millennium? In his illustrious career batters only hit about .280 off the damn guy. And Danny don’t give me any guff about how at least the Mets won a playoff series and the Yankees didn’t and all that jazz, because winning it all is the only thing that matters.
Meet the Mets, meet the Mets,
Step right up and greet the Mets.
Bring your kiddies, bring your wife,
Guaranteed to have the time of your life.
Because the Mets are really sockin' the ball,
Knockin' those home runs over the wall.
East side, West side, everybody's coming down,
To meet the M-E-T-S Mets, of New York town.
Oh, the butcher and the baker and the people on the streets,
Where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
Oh, they’re hollerin’ and cheerin’ and they’re jumpin’ in their seats,
Where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
All the fans are true to the orange and blue,
So hurry up and come on down -
‘cause we’ve got ourselves a ball club,
The Mets of New York town!
Give ‘em a yell! Give ‘em a hand!
And let ‘em know your rootin’ in the stands!
Come on and...
Meet the Mets, meet the Mets,
Step right up and greet the Mets.
Bring your kiddies, bring your wife,
Guaranteed to have the time of your life.
Because the Mets are really sockin' the ball,
Knockin' those homeruns over the wall.
East side, West side, everybody's coming down,
To meet the M-E-T-S Mets,
Of New York town,
Of New York town.
As for the whole Tiki Barber nonsense, I could really give a shit. If he wants to retire I won’t begrudge him. As Dan Filowitz (A Great Jew) once talked about on this site, when we were discussing the latest situation having to deal with “the player” (I love Bill Parcells), why do we demand so much from our athletes as people. So Tiki Barber is selfish, whoopty damn doo, find me an athlete who isn’t or says he isn’t and I will point out someone who has violated the 7th commandment. Okay Tiki Barber is selfish and clearly looking out for his best interests (I agree wholeheartedly with just about everything you said Josh), but I can move past it, enjoy him while he is still on my team and move on with it next year. My hatred is reserved for people who deserve it, like Stephen Colbert for not being funny and Bill Walton for being alive. Dan, can we put out a Fatwa on Walton? Is there some type of paperwork we have to fill out, or council we have to appear before to do that?

Yeah, they lost. Their bats choked. I'll admit it! I realized once the 7th inning came around and they had multiple chances with runners in scoring pos and less then 2 outs and couldn't score, they were done! But, wow, where does a Yankee fan get off talking smack at the Mets losing a game 7 in the NLCS, when your pathetic bums have been the supreme choke artists of the last 5 years???
I take this from the series: Maine and Perez stepped up big and proved they should be strongly considered for the starting rotation next year. And Endy Chavez made the greatest catch I have ever seen in my life!
Yes the dream is over, and yes my season was 2 weeks longer then yours, and yes the Mets future looks A LOT brighter then the Yanks... but this hurts! This hurts BAD!
Thanks for the full version of the Mets song. I can sing that in the shower now as I cry away my tears and wait for Port St. Lucie.
Kris, I know you enjoy making fun of the Mets so by all means, feel free. They couldn't score runs against Suppan and the Cards bullpen, which is something they did all year long.
If you had gave me that bottom 9th situation two weeks ago with Beltran and the based loaded, I'm sure there's not a true Met fan that wouldn't have taken it.
Beltran has to come through, but to blame him would be looking past Valentin striking out in the 7th with runner on third and one out. I was hoping Floyd would be used to pinch hit there, but Willie stuck with his guys.
People can argue he stuck with Heilman too long, but Wagner has cried and failed in non-save situations all year so to bring him in the ninth might not have worked...
It was a good year. I'm not taking pleasure that the Mets lasted longer than the Yanks because they're both at home right now, but I will say I do like our chances at getting back next year.
As for Tiki, didn't he talk about reaching the Super Bowl again and retiring at the beginning of this year? Why is this so new to everyone?
Really, this is a case of we have 1 hour to fill, baseball is down to the final three teams (two now), no one really wants to hear about college football until Friday, the NBA and NHL preseason/early regular season is boring, so any NFL story needs to be played up HUGE.
When the season is over, if Tiki is still talking about retiring, I'll start worrying about that then.
