The Daily Nooner
- Last evening I was sitting there watching the Cardinals-Astros game and thinking to myself, boy that Andy Pettitte is one heck of a pitcher. Then I thought about it and looked up some numbers, and said, boy the Andy Pettitte is one heck of a post season pitcher. He is tough and knows how to pitch in any situation, and most importantly he will always keep his team in the game. Then I thought, wow I wish the Yankees had a guy like that, or even Pettitte himself. I wonder when he may be an available free agent. Oh, wait a minute, I looked it up, the Yankees did have him, but they let him get away a little over 2 years ago. Hummmm, why would Steinbrenner not want a guy like that on the team? Oh yeah, because he likes Bibles and Jesus, shame on him. Who needs you Andy Pettitte, take your bibles and your Jesus loving ways to Houston and win a championship!!!
- At about 10:45 last night, some time soon after Lance Berkman’s 3 run homer, I heard a strange noise. To quote Alec Guinness from Star Wars, it was “as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror.” Those voices were that of Fox Sports executives when they realized that there World Series was going to be the Houston Astros and the Chicago White Sox. That series does not galvanize anyone. People can talk about the White Sox futility over the past 80 years or so, but it is nothing like the Red Sox story of last season. There are few reasons for that. The White Sox haven’t had a team standing directly in their way as the Red Sox did for so many years. The White Sox have never been close, not at least since 1959. The White Sox don’t have the recognizable personalities like the Red Sox. Even the general sports fan last season knew who Johnny Damon, Big Papi, Manny Ramirez, and Pedro Martinez were. And of course they knew who Curt Schilling was, for if they didn’t Schilling would just call a press conference and let you know who he was. Lastly, the White Sox don’t have any cool celebrity fans like Ben Affleck to name their arch nemesis the “Evil Empire.” While the Astros are also a great team with a great story, that being the continued remarkable success of Roger Clemens, they are not the time of brash self promoting team that people will rally around and root for. Fox must have been so excited when the playoff started, they had 4 of their 5 best draws in the playoffs; Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, and Braves (the Cubs being the other). And it looks as if they may not get any of them in the Series.
- Allan Houston. Well people always tell you when you are young to dream big, and that if you believe enough all your dreams will come true. Well as an adult I have learned that is just some line grown ups tell kids so they will behave, because that statement is one big hot pile of steaming crap. But some of your dreams may come true, if you really really really believe hard enough. And yesterday one of those finally came true, Allan Houston actually retired. It is easily the second greatest day in New York Knicks history. The greatest of course being the day Don Nelson was fired. Houston had been draining the life out of this team for the better part of 4 years. Of course the Knicks still have Houston under contract for another season, but with him being forced out by injury maybe they can pay him off with insurance money and get some of that cap room back. That way with the cap room Isaiah Thomas can go out and sign another quality free agent like Jerome James. But I digress, the retirement of Allan Houston. This guy’s career was filled with more promise than a George W. Bush presidency, and fell just about as short (Dan & Josh you guys happy, I made fun of W?). October 17 will now become an official holiday on my counter, right up there with El Moliguania
- I know there are still plenty of non believers out there, but the Indianapolis Colts are a very good football team. This is it though; this is their year, their window of opportunity. They have a very solid defense that can actually make the routine play along with the spectacular. Peyton Manning seems to have a much more balanced attack this season; Edgerrin James is healthy and running very well. The Patriots are down this year, and the Colts already have a three game lead on them for home field advantage, which is what they need to succeed in the playoffs. If they get home field they won’t have to play any games outside in the postseason, which makes them difficult to beat.

Ummmmmmm, the Astros lost last night.
I was confused by this as well.. On my TV Pujols hit a game winning 3 run homer for the Cards. Damn stupid Maryland TV always being wrong! How do I get back to the tri-state area so I can buy my Jose Reyes jersey????
Well last time I checked it was Brad Lidge who gave up the three run game winning homer to Pujols. I saw Pettitte pitch beautifully out of two jams were the game could have got away from the Astros. He had a what is considered in MLB talk a "Quality Start." Which is waht he always gives you.
Yes Mr. Zoltan, I was and still to a degree am a supporter of President George W. Bush. But like all people, him and I are both fallible. As a human being I have the right reserved to change my opinion on someone or something whenever the fuck I fell like doing so.
I wasn't commenting on who threw what pitch, I was commenting on the fact that your post would lead someone who did not see the game or highlights to think that Houston won.
It'll be really tough to win one next year without Edge!!

the bengals will win the superbowl..we've got indy at home and will snap up home field advantage with that win...peyton manning will never win a game his team needs him to win----NEVER EVER EVER! do u think NBA dress code is racist? just a q...call me sometime big sexy, i miss you
Was that lasy message directed at me? I'll call you. You're a guy right??
OOPS>>>LAST MESSAGE!
DAMN STUBBY FINGERS
Yurrie, Maybe you need a typing wand!
TF
HEY CRAIG,
the Bengals suck. Play somebody. You're going to get hammered by Big Ben and the Steel. No, the NBA dress code isn't racist, if those guys had real jobs, they would have to look presentable, why is this any different? AI is a thug, and if he couldn't play basketball he would be wearing an orange jumpsuit everyday while he was picking up trash on the interstate. Oh yeah, where are my XXL Bengals shorts? And one of those hats with the stripes on the bill.
imperial wizard~
next time i will write my bengals posts preceded with "imperial wizard"...ok, i'll give you that the schedule hasn't been brutal, but neither has indy's and everyone's on their nutsacks. yurrie, the original msg wasn't directed at you, it was directed at kris...and my man who said "HEY CRAIG" proved the stereotypes of our country...tatoos, chains and throwbacks = BLACKNESS and BLACKNESS = THUG...dont get me wrong, the dress code is not racist and i agree with your point, but the feelings behind it are and everyone knows it. dumbass mark cuban looks worse than any player ever has but does he need a dress code???? you can try to sugarcoat it anyway you like. also, i love how you perceive AI to be a thug, but i bet you'd suck off MJ in a heartbeat...MJ smoked weed, gambled his ass off, fucked more skank hoes and got away with more because he gave off a "classly" act. Fuck that
Mark Cuban is an owner and not subject to the dress code agreed upon by the uion for the players. If you own a team you can wear what you want, or as Cuban said it, "I've worked too hard and made enough money so I never have to wear a suit again!"
Apparent looking and acting classy goes a long way. If these "thugs" would like to be treated differently, maybe they should look and act differently too..... not white, not black, just professional!
I never mentioned any tats, chains or any other thing like that, I called AI a thug, because he is a thug. He is know to be associated with gangs, and if that doesn't make someone a thug, nothing does. It's people like you, who put words in other people's mouths that perpetuate sterotypes.
Imperial Wizard~
I love this. Yurrie, I dont disagree with you, but Stern said he wanted to change the image of the NBA - isn't Cuban apart of that image? Again, I dont think the dress code is racist, but it's funny to see the reactions when you ask a simple question! Players should be pissed at union for accepting it if they have any gripes, no doubt. Uh, I never said you did say anything about chains and tattoos, I said that people see those things, equate them to black people and then equate it them to thugs. Fair enough? Or do you want to get down to the shitty details? I'm not the one that said "if he couldn't play basketball he would be wearing an orange jumpsuit everyday while he was picking up trash on the interstate." Of course he would, because he is "known to be associated with gangs." You're right, I mean, I must have put all these words in your mouth. Let me just ask you what your opinion on Larry Bird is...
I thought "tatoos, chains and throwbacks" was a discription of a biker, high on mesculane and PCP, beating up WASPy bitches that cart their bikes into Sturgis for the big rally...
Sorry a bit of Carlin slips out every now and again...
The dress code isn't overtly racist. Nothing these days are, but the same way it's easier for a white person to get a loan from a bank, the dress code's underwritten rule is to curb the dress code of these black millionaires. Did any of you hear Phil Jackson recently, talking about stopping the Hip Hop, thuggary style - Like Mr. Tony says, wasn't this guy a friggin hippie in the 60's, smoking grass with hair down to his ass, sitting in the park trying to give peace a chance?
The players don't have a leg to stand on in this argument and neither does anyone else. They can't scream to teh union because the NBA, like any other place of employment, can dictate what their employees wear while on the job. Period, point blank and that's the list.
And all you AI haters, please stop it. You think The Answer is the worst of the bunch out there? You think he's the only one that hangs out with thugs? Let's see, the governor of Virginia pardoned him for the one crime he was convicted of BACK IN THE EARLY 1990s!
Yes, he kicked his wife out of the house naked and looked at his cousin's place, a place where he pays the rent, for her with a weapon that only the fag living in the place saw (and if any of you remember that case, that cat was batting from the other side for sure).
Why not bash his teammate Chris Webber, who lied on the stand? Or Jayson Williams, who was on NBC not less than two years before he shot his driver (accidently).
Before you make stupid, racist comments, at least choose someone original than the media attraction that was just on Sportscenter. We all like this website because just like Dennis Miller, Kris does his research when he comes out of his mouth with something. If it's off the cuff, it doesn't bash one of the best players in the league for shit over a decade old.
AI'S Babb Momma OUT
Just food for thought. Here's a list of the dress code at my bar that was implemented because there were too many fights, fines, and bad image associated with it:
ABSOLUTELY NO:
URBAN WEAR, SWEAT SHIRTS, BAGGY CLOTHES LONG SHIRTS OR
SLEEVELESS SHIRTS, LARGE CHAINS, BANDANNA’S, SKULLIES,
CORNROWS, PINWHEEL HATS, DO RAGS, LONG SHORTS,
LARGE LOGOS, PATCHWORK OR BLEACHED PANTS, MESH
SHIRTS,OR JERSEYS, HATS MUST BE WORN PROPERLY,
SMALL CHAINS TUCKED IN.
The owners thought this would clean up the "image"...was it targeting a certain race? I'd say so. Did we try to keep any black or non-white people from coming in? Absolutely not. In fact by far the majority of cool, nice, respectful people I met at that bar in the past year and a half were black men and women. The dirt bag, "wigger", and preppy white guys caused the most trouble. Did this dress code keep the trouble out? For the most part, yes, but ironically the trouble was from white guys!!!
Take it for what it's worth, but I dealt with this stuff first hand every weekend. A certain type of clothing is associated, to a degree, with a race, but I do not believe "trouble", "thuggery", or any other negative spin should be....because where I live it's not the case!
