Overrate/Underrated

Yet again I have championed a new concept here at “The Wisdom.” Of course, like all good things, it will not last. Overrated/Underrated could pretty much cover anything that is going on; sports, entertainment, the news, whatever pops into my brain, in between me planning my next meal.

OVERRATED

- The Dukes of Hazzard. Not just the horrific movie that is debuting today, but the whole concept. Listen, I watched the show when I was a child, and that is precisely my point, when I was a CHILD!!! Really the show was dumb, made very little sense, and lacked any real entertainment value. So what now, make it into a hit motion picture? I know one ass clown that is going to by tickets this morning for an evening showing of this movie. Has this society sunken that low?

- The X-Games. Well one knows I have never liked the name of this, skateboarding is not extreme; it is a horrible method of travel. These things have run their course, although I will admit that I watch them, but I watch just the Bike and skateboarding on the half pipe. These things don’t need 700 different events, like wakeboarding and riding a bike down a snow covered mountain.

- This next one is really random, but it has to do with music. Rush and Bob Marley. I just happened to see both of them on VH1 Classic yesterday and thought about how much they both sucked. Now I may get some disagreement on this from my music lovers out there, but when have I ever cared about disturbing the peace? Rush to me has no real feel to them; to me they are just some run of the mill late 70’s early 80’s band. Nothing special, no song or one particular band member sticks out for anything. Yet they have this certain cult following that fawns over their music and tells you why Rush is the greatest Rock Band ever. I have four words for people like the: THE BEATLES THE STONES. Now on to Robert Nesta Marley. I can’t help but feel that my high school generation and more importantly my group of friends helped to resurrect this man’s music into the mainstream. On occasion in the right mood I am up for listening to some Marley, but too many people see this man for way more than he was, and that is a musician. He is not a prophet, not a poet, not a life changing entity in any way. Yet so many people seem so affected by his music, but usually those people are on drugs at the time, and that may have something to do with it. I would also argue, and Dan you would be the foremost expert on this, that Marley’s music was greatly influenced by his band mate Peter Tosh. And that once Tosh had left the Wailers Marley’s music began to slide considerably, while Tosh went on to make great records, but because of his politically radical views was never much given credit for the great music he created.

UNDERRATED

- Roger Clemens. This guy is unfreaking real, and I will say it; The Greatest Pitcher of all time. Before his career resurrection he was already a sure fire Hall of Fame pitcher. He should thank Dan Duquette for motivating him back in 1995 because his career since then would be Hall caliber. Since his 35th birthday his record is 125-50, what? His ERA has gone down each of the last 3 years, and has won 20 games 5 times in the 5 man rotation era. To think he has 338 wins (a .668 W %) in a time where only one other contemporary was able to get 300. Please just appreciate the fact that you have seen the greatest pitcher of all time

- Again more baseball, but Jose Canseco. This guy becomes more and more right every month. Everyone clowned him 2 years ago when on the Dan Patrick show he announced he was going to write a tell all book documenting the use of steroids and people who used them and that he would find a publisher and it would be a best seller. He did and it was, then he was clowned then for naming good guys like Rafael Palmeiro. Again, Canseco was affirmed when Palmeiro tested positive earlier this week for taking a potent steroid. Listen, I am not saying we have to make Jose the next commissioner of baseball but we do have to give this guy a little bit of credit.

- The ineptitude of the Atlanta Hawks. Thank god for this organization otherwise I might have to be making fun of the Knicks. This group of clowns that bought the team a year ago can reach an agreement on whether or not to sign and trade for Joe Johnson. This guy is a rising star in the league and wants to come to the Hawks. So the Suns offer a sign and trade deal, which will benefit the Hawks in the long run salary wise, except one of the 9 owners does not want to do it. When these scrubs bought the team instead of appointing someone in charge they just decided that the organization would be run by a 9 man committee. So the one guy who disagrees with the trade has received a court order injunction, and now the decision is left up to some random judge in the Atlanta Circuit Court system. How freaking random is that? Only the Hawks could bungle something up this

Wow,
You can't be any more correct about the Rocket. He is super human, almost as if he's hanging out with Raffy, if you know what I mean. But all joking aside, 125 wins? Just think of the no decisions that he's gotten where his offense refused to score a run for him or maybe some games where he was leading when he left and a reliever blew it. I agree with him being the GPOAT. As for the Dukes Of Hazzard, can they just go to hell and die?

Imperial Wizard~
First: dont say the hawks are "bungling" anything because the bengals WILL win the super bowl this year
Second: you can debate the bob marley point with one of my profs at the ol college: Kwame Dawes wrote Bob Marley: LyricalGenius, published 2003. He was a great prof, it'd be interesting to see a little feud between u two.
Third: I think am going to be on ESPN this year cuz of a new reality show!!! hahaha

Kris
I have not seen the Dukes yet (and probably won't unitl they come to Comedy Central in 6 months, but there are at least 2 redeeming features in this movie.
1) Jessica Simpson in Daisy Dukes (and this is the gay man pointing this out)
2) Willie Nelson get some more money to pay off his tx debt tothe IRS
